NEXT SALON: January Post-Burns-Night Salon

Tuesday 31st of January, 2023, 6pm, Live and on Zoom

For our first event of the year, since the January Salon falls close to Burns Night, this is naturally when we look at poetry.

It’s a long month, and this year we have five Tuesdays in January – so it’s finally time to announce our upcoming event on the 31st at 6pm, back at the Outhouse, or from 7pm on Zoom.

While many will have already raised a toast to Burns, it’s now our turn. We’re going to take a quick look at some of the Bard’s activities in Edinburgh, where he would have attended Salons not unlike ours, and ponder over whether we’ve been addressing the haggis incorrectly all these years...

We open as usual with a drink reception, there will be haggis-based snacks, and we’ll be looking ahead at some of the festivals coming up in the next few months outwith our own Literary City.

How it works...

6.00: Wine Reception at the Outhouse

6.45: Open the Zoom meeting

7.00: Welcome Guest Speakers

7.45: Live Mingling, and Zoom chat

Tickets are available from Eventbrite – please state which ticket type you require as numbers will be limited. We will send a zoom invitation to all attendees anyway.

As usual, we’ll be at the Outhouse – but for those who can’t be with us in person, we’ll be live-streaming the ‘formal’ section of the evening from 7pm, so everyone can participate. There will be a wine reception, and plenty of time before the presentation begins. We will open the Zoom at 6.45pm and will welcome our guests at 7pm. Online attendees are welcome to hang around in the zoom for more informal chatter, which we can monitor.

All Salon Events are free. We invite a small donation (£3) for the glass of wine, or encourage people to buy us a coffee to help fund our work.

We look forward to seeing you in person or in the zoom-room!
