Tuesday the 25th of August, 2026, 6.30pm ’til the end…
For our Birthday Celebration Salon, we’re saying farewell to the Bar where we launched the new Edinburgh Literary Salon.

We are delighted to be celebrating our Eighth Birthday. We don’t have an ‘actual’ birthday, but always use our August Salon to celebrate how, in 2018, a small group of us took on running a monthly Salon when the City of Literature were no longer able.
Eight years on, we’ve hosted nearly a hundred free events, produced two anthologies of new writing, welcomed numerous guests and authors from across the literary landscape of Edinburgh and beyond, sustaining a community for anyone with an interest in literature. So, a party is in order.
The Wash Bar is where many of us first attended the Salon. We were warmly welcomed back by the proprietor – at least until the pandemic, after which Mike has been trying to retire! He is finally hanging up his bar towel at the end of August, so we’re back for this ‘last hurrah.’
We have run the Edinburgh Literary Salon as an entirely voluntary organisation, with no public funding. For our Party we hope to provide refreshments, decorations, entertainment, and cake of course, so any financial support will be most welcomed.
The best way is to go to our Buy Me a Coffee page and buy as many beans as you can!
As always registration is free, and on Eventbrite. There will be no official presentation, so we won’t be to livestreaming this event, but please join us for an evening of celebration and socialization.
