Tuesday the 27th of October, 2026, 7pm, Live and on Zoom

For our Horror Salon we have three brilliant writers, with three different ways to get under your skin.

October has always belonged to the darker side of imagination. As the nights draw in and Hallowe’en approaches, it’s the perfect time for stories of things that lurk just out of sight - when the veil between our world and whatever lies beyond feels thinnest.

For this month’s Edinburgh Literary Salon, we’re delighted to welcome three brilliant horror writers, each bringing their own particular take on what frightens, unsettles and fascinates us. From the secrets buried beneath our feet, to the things that may be hiding next door, and the unimaginable horrors waiting in the darkness below the sea, these are stories guaranteed to keep you looking over your shoulder.

We will talk with Nicholas Binge about Exhumation, a speculative horror in which a London private investigator searches for a missing woman with ties to an underground cult whose roots reach deeper than he could have possibly imagined.

Rhiannon Grist will introduce Home Sick, a chilling psychological horror about a woman seeking a fresh start in a remote Scottish cottage - only to discover that her new home, her unsettling neighbour and perhaps even her own past are not quite what they seem.

And Benedict Anning will take us into the claustrophobic depths of Atomic Coffin, where a Cold War spy, a missing Soviet submarine and something far more terrifying than a military secret collide beneath the North Atlantic.

We will be in the Function Room of The Outhouse, on Broughton Street Lane, from 6.30pm, and will livestream the Presentation section from 7pm. Grab a drink from the downstairs bar, fill in a name-label so we know who you are, and join the conversation.

How it works...

6.30:             Reception at the Outhouse Function Room

Accessibility Notice

Edinburgh Literary Salon is open to all those with an interest in all aspects of Literature, whether professional or personal, and to all parts of the industry: writers, publishers, booksellers etc. All are welcome, and events have free registration. While we aim to hold some events at accessible venues, our regular salon is in an upstairs room at The Outhouse. For this reason, we aim to livestream most events. If there is a problem accessing zoom, we will do what we can to assist. We strive to ensure adequate audibility, and straightforward registration. We invite positive feedback on how we can improve, even within our limitations as a non-funded organisation. We welcome open conversation.
