NEXT SALON: September Salon from Your Home

Tuesday the 28th of September, 6pm, on Zoom

Our September Salon from Your Home features a mixed bag of guests, genres, writing and other exciting news.

While we’re not quite ready to push the boat out and re-convene with live, in-person Salons, we are delighted to welcome guests from Edinburgh’s new upcoming festival, Push the Boat Out. This is being held at Summerhall from the 15th to 17th October and has a fabulous programme of events. We will be welcoming communications manager, Julia Sorensen, to tell us all about it.

We’re delighted to have our parent organisation, Edinburgh City of Literature, in attendance. Siân Bevan will be chatting about some research she's doing for City of Literature. She’d like to get some writers to fill out a wee survey, just to find out how things are in Edinburgh at the moment, and what would be useful in the future.

Our Guest Writer will be a good friend of the Salon, Tom Jeffreys. Tom’s new book, The White Birch, is a reflection on the relationship between Russian art, landscape, and identity, through the lens of the white birch, Russia’s unofficial national tree. This beautifully written and illustrated book looks at all thing Russian and Birch, from Chernobyl to Pussy Riot.

While we’re in pre-festival mode, we’ll also be flagging up the Portobello Book Festival, which is taking place from the 1st to the 3rd of October.

As always, the formal event will end after some participation and sharing of information, after which you are welcome to hang around in the zoom for more informal chatter. There will be an opportunity to join break-out rooms, and people can stay for as long or short a time as they wish.
