Tuesday the 28th of October 2025, 7pm, Live and on Zoom

For our pre-Hallowe’en Salon we've got a particularly spooky phenomenon: two authors for the price of one who is/are the very same person!

Whether you are a frequent or occasional visitor at Edinburgh Literary Salon, you are most likely to have spotted Philip Caveney, one of our most regular attendees. Philip has been a good friend of the Salon for many years, has spoken about YA writing, and features in both of our Anthologies which we produced in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University.

What you might not know is that, besides producing books under his own name, Philip also appears as Danny Weston on publishing lists. And so, sporting both hats (or wigs, or quills) we are delighted that our Salon stalwart will mention some older work, alongside recent writing, and preview his latest book.

Philip’s Crow Boy trilogy came out in 2012 and remains popular due to its connection to Mary King’s Close. The latest Danny Weston novel, Postcards from Valhalla has been shortlisted for a book prize in March next year, and Philip will read us a short, creepy scene suitable for the evening’s Hallowe’en theme. He’ll end with a sneaky peek of Flipped! which will be published in early November this year.

As always, our aim at Edinburgh Literary Salon is to bring together all people with an interest in writing and literature, on whatever level and background, to hear about what’s going on in Edinburgh and be inspired by other writers and creatives who populate our literary city. We welcome all people, what ever their interest or connection, to join our community.

We will be at our usual home, The Outhouse, and tickets are free as always. If you can’t make it to the venue, just watch on zoom instead as we’ll livestream the presentation. Afterwards anyone is welcome to stick around and mingle until the pub closes!

How it works

6.30: Doors Open – reception in the Function Room at the Outhouse

6.50: Open the Zoom meeting (details emailed to all ticket-holders)

7.00: Welcome, and Introduction

7.05: Philip Caveney talks to Danny Weston (or vice versa!)

7.45: Notes of Interest; Mingling and chat

Registration can be found on Eventbrite – it is free to register for all of our events.

Sadly, we are unable to offer a glass of wine on arrival, but we hope to re-continue this tradition in the future.

We encourage people to buy us a coffee to help fund our work. If you can’t afford to donate, you are still welcome. Our two anthologies are on sale here, and books will be available to purchase on the night. To help keep our website live and alive, visit our GoFundMe

We look forward to seeing you in person or in the zoom-room.

Accessibility Notice

Edinburgh Literary Salon is open to all those with an interest in all aspects of Literature, whether professional or personal, and to all parts of the industry: writers, publishers, booksellers etc. All are welcome, and events have free registration. While we aim to hold some events at accessible venues, our regular salon is in an upstairs room at The Outhouse. For this reason, we aim to livestream most events. If there is a problem accessing zoom, we will do what we can to assist. We strive to ensure adequate audibility, and straightforward registration. We invite positive feedback on how we can improve, even within our limitations as a non-funded organisation. We welcome open conversation.
