NEXT EVENT: February’s Saucy Salon

edinburghlitsalon

Tuesday the 25th of February, 2025, 7pm, Live and on Zoom

February is full of romance, with Cupid and Eros vying with Valentine, so we thought we’d dabble with erotic writing at this month’s Salon!

For our February Salon we’re grabbing Eros by the… whatever is up for grabs, and basking in some erotic readings from two of our good friends. First, a long-standing friend of the Salon and many other local literary organisations (such as Edinburgh Women’s Fiction and Portobello Book Festivals) Lucy Ribchester.

A former New Writer Awardee with the Scottish Book Trust, and shortlisted for COSTA and Manchester fiction prizes, Lucy has written under various names. The Hourglass Factory (Simon & Schuster, 2015) was published to great acclaim, followed up by The Amber Shadows  and last June, Murder Ballad. But for this month’s Saucy Salon we’ll hear from her collection of surreal, burlesque erotic short stories (writing as Lucy Debussy) published by Trapeze in February 2024: Unspeakable Shaking Pleasures.

And to whet our appetite/whistles/whatever we’ll welcome a newer member of the Salon audience who told us she writes erotic poetry, so we’ve asked for a sneaky selection from Tania Hunt. Originally from Chile, Tania now lives in Scotland and writes in English, performing at various events in Edinburgh. For our Notes of Interest, we’ll look into open mic opportunities around Edinburgh, as well as multi-lingual publishing.

We’ll be at The Outhouse again, and after the drinks reception from 6.30, we’ll livestream the presentation on Zoom at 7pm, lasting around 30 minutes.

How it works...

6.30: Doors Open – reception in the Function Room at the Outhouse

6.50: Open the Zoom meeting (details emailed to all ticket-holders)

7.00: Welcome, and Introduction

7.10: Presentation: Tania Hunt and Lucy Ribchester

7.30: Notes of Interest, then mingling and blether!

Registration can be found on Eventbrite – it is free to register for all of our events.

Sadly, we are now unable to offer a glass of wine to people on arrival, but we hope to re-continue this tradition in the future.

We ask for donations and encourage people to buy us a coffee to help fund our work. If you can’t afford to donate, you are still welcome. Our two anthologies are on sale here, and books will be available to purchase on the night. We look forward to seeing you in person or in the zoom-room.

Accessibility Notice

Edinburgh Literary Salon is open to all those with an interest in all aspects of Literature, whether professional or personal, and to all parts of the industry: writers, publishers, booksellers etc. All are welcome, and events have free registration. While we aim to hold some events at accessible venues, our regular salon is in an upstairs room at The Outhouse. For this reason, we aim to livestream most events. If there is a problem accessing zoom, we will do what we can to assist. We strive to ensure adequate audibility, and straightforward registration. We invite positive feedback on how we can improve, even within our limitations as a non-funded organisation. We welcome open conversation.
