Come along to our June Salon and meet a collection of literary and artistic innovators whose creations are hand-made, hand-held, and hand-sized!

For our June Salon we’re hosting a host of independent creatives presenting their diminutive creations. Our theme is ‘mini’, but our aims are high: to bring together people on the margins of traditional publishing. Whether small-press, homespun, self-published, or producing beautiful work purely for the purpose of their craft –  creating Art for Art’s sake – we are providing a platform for them to show and sell their work.

We’re talking cottage industry, risograph, calligraphed, intricately stitched, octavo folded, scrimshawed on whalebone, bound with silken thread, held with vegan beeswax. But we’ve not ruled out those whose printing methods would send the luddites spinning in their ancient graves, and who utilise the long-armed stapler.

The MINI ZINE FAIR will be at our usual home, The Outhouse, and will incorporate a Salon Gathering at the mid-point, where a flurry of literary folk may come to chat, drink, share ideas, and network.

We’ll have a short presentation on the MINI ZINE THEME, introducing the Zine Tablers and finding out about their creative methods. This section will be livestreamed on zoom for those who cannot attend in person. After this, folk can stick around to buy zines and have another drink… or two.

How it works…

4pm                      Zine Tables are set up for sales – open to all^*

6pm                      Regular Salon attendees arrive and mingle

6.45                      Open the Zoom – check audibility, welcome

7pm                      Presentation on MINI-ZINES and TABLERS

7.40                      Continue Zine Sales and mingling ’til 10+

Tickets are available from Eventbrite – both to attend the MINI-ZINE-FAIR or to register for a Tiny Table – but anyone^* is welcome to drop in and peruse and purchase zines any time from 4 – 10pm. NB: Table Registration has been extended – only a few tables left!

All Salon Events are free to attend. Our two anthologies will be available to purchase during the event, and we encourage people to buy us a coffee to help fund our work, or donate by cash or card.

Accessibility Notice

Edinburgh Literary Salon is open to all adults with an interest in all aspects of Literature, whether professional or personal, and to all parts of the industry: writers, publishers, booksellers etc. All are welcome^*, and events have free registration. The Outhouse has a fully accessible downstairs area, but parts of our MINI-ZINE-FAIR will be in the upstairs Function Room. For this reason, we will livestream the Presentation Section. If there is a problem accessing zoom, we will do what we can to assist. We strive to ensure adequate audibility, and straightforward registration. We invite positive feedback on how we can improve, even within our limitations as a non-funded organisation. We welcome open conversation.

^*NB: Edinburgh Literary Salon is an organisation for adults and holds events in venues where alcohol is available. The Outhouse pub has a no under-eighteen policy: children are not allowed entry.
