A symposium on the work of David Lindsay

A message from Sean Martin. Salon members may be interested to know (and you should be, because it looks fantastic, Ed) to know that I am co-organising an online symposium to be held via the Scottish Storytelling Centre's website on 9th December to celebrate the work of Scottish writer David Lindsay, whose first novel A Voyage to Arcturus celebrates its centenary this autumn. The symposium features an international cast of scholars, writers, composers, and filmmakers, and will discuss not just Arcturus, but the whole range of Lindsay's fiction. (Lindsay is also the subject of my PhD. I will be talking about this; and showing an extract from the documentary I've made about Lindsay.) A Voyage to Arcturus and Beyond: David Lindsay's Visionary Imagination David Lindsay's A Voyage to Arcturus (1920) is a classic of 20th century fantasy fiction, a unique blend of astonishing inventiveness and philosophical speculation that counts C. S. Lewis, Philip Pullman, Alan Moore and Nina Allan among its admirers. A Voyage to Arcturus and Beyond: David Lindsay's Visionary Imagination is an international online symposium to mark the centenary of the publication of Arcturus and the 75th anniversary of the death of David Lindsay (1876-1945). The symposium will feature short talks and presentations on the full range of Lindsay’s work by academics and Lindsay enthusiasts. There will also be the chance to hear music inspired by Lindsay's work, and watch a preview of a new documentary film about Lindsay's work. Hosted by the Scottish Storytelling Centre, Edinburgh; supported by the Scottish Network for Religion and Literature, University of Edinburgh, and Edinburgh Napier University. Wednesday 9 December, 2020: 1pm to 6pm Tickets and full programme: https://scottishstorytellingcentre.online.red61.co.uk/event/913:3781/
