This month David Macpherson, creator of the Amazon Prime series 'The Rig' discusses writing for the screen and how it came to be developed.
We’re delighted to bring old and new together at this month’s Salon, as we introduce one of our recent recruits to the Steering Group. Nadine will be talking with an old Salon friend, screenwriter David Macpherson, whose debut show The Rig launched in January 2023 in over 200 territories world-wide on Amazon Prime. The show topped the Amazon Prime chart for four consecutive weeks, in the UK and in many other countries.
Series 2 of The Rig launched in January 2025, moving the action from the North Sea to a new rig high in the Arctic circle. Also a novelist and performance poet, David was named a Screen International Rising Star in 2022. It's great to welcome him back to the Salon.
We’ll be at The Outhouse again, and after the drinks reception from 6.30, we’ll livestream the presentation on Zoom at 7pm, lasting around 30 minutes. There will be a chance to ask questions both in the room and through the chat on zoom.

Sadly, we are unable to offer a glass of wine on arrival, but we hope to re-continue this tradition in the future.
We ask for donations and encourage people to buy us a coffee to help fund our work. If you can’t afford to donate, you are still welcome. Our two anthologies are on sale here, and books will be available to purchase on the night.

Edinburgh Literary Salon is open to all those with an interest in all aspects of Literature, whether professional or personal, and to all parts of the industry: writers, publishers, booksellers etc. All are welcome, and events have free registration. While we aim to hold some events at accessible venues, our regular salon is in an upstairs room at The Outhouse. For this reason, we aim to livestream most events. If there is a problem accessing zoom, we will do what we can to assist. We strive to ensure adequate audibility, and straightforward registration. We invite positive feedback on how we can improve, even within our limitations as a non-funded organisation. We welcome open conversation.
